  In our life, we make use of numbers quite often. It may concern the usage that is based on symbolic meaning. Symbols are signs strongly determined by culture. Translating symbols is even more difficult when this concerns languages belonging to a common cultural area. In this article, problems connected with translating idioms containing numbers are discussed, with examples from both German and Polish. Possible differences reflected in the symbolic meaning of numbers are also analyzed.;
  Autorka przeprowadza analizę frazeologizmów zawierających cyfry w języku polskim i niemieckim. W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiono krótko metodę badania i zarysowano główny kierunek analizy, którym jest porównanie obu języków pod kątem występujących w nich frazeologizmów zawierających cyfry jako symbole. Celem artykułu jest konfrontacja i porównanie symboliki cyfr w obu językach.
