  Church education was already present in Europe in the late 9th and 10th centuries and in Poland at the end of the 11th century. The years of the communist system (1945–1989) influenced its marginalisation. Its subsequent dynamic revival is linked to the democratic changes of 1989. Currently the Catholic schools have an equal opportunity to be set up and to function in Poland. Their number and the percentage of the total student population remain stable. The results published by the state authorities and the school rankings show that the didactic effectiveness of Catholic primary schools is higher than average. Secondary schools also achieve a high level of education, although in this case the dominance of Catholic schools is not that visible. Teaching efficiency is one of many factors that contribute to the well-established position of the Catholic schools.;
  Szkolnictwo kościelne w Europie było obecne już na przełomie IX i X, a w Polsce pod koniec XI wieku. Lata systemu komunistycznego (1945–1989) wpłynęły na jego marginalizację, a dynamiczne odrodzenie wiąże się z przemianami demokratycznymi po 1989 roku. Obecnie szkoły katolickie mają w Polsce równoprawną możliwość powstawania i funkcjonowania. Ich liczba i odsetek ogólnej populacji uczniów utrzymują się na stałym poziomie. Wyniki publikowane przez OKE i miejsca w rankingach szkół pokazują, że efektywność dydaktyczna katolickich szkół podstawowych jest wyższa niż przeciętna. Również licea osiągają wysoki poziom kształcenia, choć tutaj nie dostrzega się dominacji szkół katolickich. Efektywność dydaktyczna jest jednym z wielu czynników, które wpływają na ugruntowaną pozycję szkół katolickich.
