  The article presents the legal aspects of the organisation of girls’ high schools in Austria and the selected examples of the practice of the Galician institutions. Its main aim is to indicate the solutions which were adopted at the time concerning the status, teaching staff, subjects taught, and examinations conducted. The institutions of this type were established in Galicia at the beginning of the twentieth century and they were to provide an education for girls to a greater extent than the lower-level schools which were contemporarily in operation. The research employed historical-legal and dogmatic methods. Thanks to the former, it was possible to portray individual institutions and legal solutions in a broader context; and thanks to the latter, it was possible to analyse the normative material. The adopted solutions, despite their positive resonance, cannot be highly rated, for instance, due to the lack of teaching of classical languages. The sources of the article are the ordinances of the Minister of Religion and Education, circulars of the Imperial-Royal National School Board, annual reports of individual institutions published in book form, and press reports.;
  Artykuł przedstawia prawne aspekty organizacji liceów żeńskich w Austrii oraz wybrane przykłady praktyki placówek galicyjskich. Jego głównym celem jest wskazanie na przyjęte wówczas rozwiązania dotyczące statusu, kadry nauczycielskiej, nauczanych przedmiotów i przeprowadzanych egzaminów. Placówki tego typu w Galicji powstawały na początku XX wieku i miały w większym stopniu zapewnić wykształcenie dziewczętom niż funkcjonujące szkoły niższego szczebla. W badaniach wykorzystano metody historyczno-prawną i dogmatyczną. Dzięki tej pierwszej możliwe było ukazanie poszczególnych instytucji i rozwiązań prawnych w szerszym kontekście, dzięki drugiej – analiza materiału normatywnego. Przyjęte rozwiązania, mimo pozytywnego oddźwięku, nie mogą być wysoko ocenione, chociażby z uwagi na brak nauczania języków klasycznych. Bazę źródłową artykułu stanowią rozporządzenia ministra wyznań i oświaty, okólniki c.k. Rady Szkolnej Krajowej, publikowane w formie książkowej sprawozdania roczne poszczególnych placówek oraz relacje prasowe.
