Ex libris

Ex libris is not only a proprietary marking of books, but also a separate current in graphics – in a certain period (mainly between 19th and 20th century) it did not behoove to not have an individually designed, decorative ex libris among gentility. In stocks of libraries belonging to the Digital Libraries Federation we can find as well books and old prints containing ex libris, as some distinguished graphics – in really significant amount. In the case of this type of objects, it is not necessary to describe their content – it is enough to look once and then cannot resist browsing through more and more pages of amazing pictures. This is how it works in case of the National Digital Museum in Warsaw – we can find there a notable collection of Art Nouveau and modernistic reprints of ex libris from various countries, for example Spain, Switzerland or Czech Republic. There are ex libris illustrated in most cases by craftsmanlike fantastic landscapes, plant-based ornaments, female silhouettes and metaphores. A few interesting ex libris in different grapic styles can be found also in other digital libraries e. g. the Pedagogical Digital Library (there here), zincographie in Mazowiecka Digital Library (here and there) or those really outstanding graphic marks in the Digital Library of NN Theatre (Józef KrólKobis printery; Ania Najda).
