The aim of this paper is to analyse certain untranslatable concepts present in contemporary prose of Italian writers, with a particular reference to those from Sardinia. In their prose they often mix Italian with other languages and Italian dialects. These procedures enable them to explain deep ideas existing and occurring only in their cultural habitat; these ideas seem impossible to be expressed in any other language. The latest novel by Salvatore Niffoi, Pantumas, offers a good example of how the author’s identity that is linguistically determined may be expressed by polyphony. In the present paper we will focus our attention on certain aspects of this novel, in particular on its lexical, phonetic and semantic elements. We will also try to answer the question related to the possibility of understanding the text that seems to have been written with the intention to obscure the meaning of the novel.;
Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu nieprzetłumaczalnych sformułowań obecnych w prozie współczesnych pisarzy włoskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem prozaików pochodzących z Sardynii. Często dokonują oni zabiegu łączenia włoskiego z innymi językami oraz dialektami. Dzięki temu przekazują czytelnikom istotę danego obszaru kulturowego, której nie można oddać przez tłumaczenia na literacki język. Analiza wybranych fragmentów powieści Pantumas Salvatorego Niffoi będzie miała na celu wskazać, jak w polifoniczności powieści pisarz urzeczywistnia językowe uwarunkowanie swojej tożsamości. W analizie powieści skupimy naszą uwagę na niektórych jej elementach, zwłaszcza leksykalnych, fonetycznych i semantycznych. Zastanowimy się także nad problemem związanym z możliwością zrozumienia tekstu literackiego, którego struktura została celowo tak skomponowana, aby zadanie to czytelnikowi utrudnić.
