  The article examines the problem of identity self-search of descendants of Ukrainian emigrants in the United States of America. The author analyzes a documentary text by a contemporary American author who studies the history of her family, immersing herself in the most traumatic events of the last century. Her attention is focused on World War II, the Soviet occupation, repression, and forced emigration. This search for family memory is further intensified by the current Russian- Ukrainian war. The text’s plot is structured around several types of memory – individual, family, regional and Ukrainian national. It is in this system of coordinates that Megan Buskey endeavorsto understand her own identity and clarify those traumas from the past that directly influenced her formation and self-presentation in the modern world.;
  W artykule poruszona została kwestia poszukiwania własnej tożsamości przez potomków ukraińskich emigrantów w Stanach Zjednoczonych Ameryki. Analizie poddano tekst non-fiction współczesnej amerykańskiej pisarki, która bada historię swojego rodu, zagłębiając się w najbardziej traumatyczne wydarzenia ostatniego stulecia. Skupia się na II wojnie światowej, okupacji sowieckiej, represjach i ostatecznie przymusowej emigracji. Trwająca wojna rosyjsko-ukraińska staje się ważnym impulsem do wzmożenia poszukiwań pamięci rodzinnej. Rozwój fabuły opiera się na kilku typach pamięci – indywidualnej, rodzinnej, regionalnej i ukraińskiej narodowej. To właśnie przez ich pryzmat pisarka Megan Buskey próbuje zrozumieć własną tożsamość i wyjaśnić traumy przeszłości, bezpośrednio wpływające na jej osobowość i autoprezentację we współczesnym świecie.
