The PIONIER network Digital Libraries Federation gathers information about objects available in Polish digital libraries. This information can be retrieved from the PIONIER DLF in an automated manner. Thus, the PIONIER DLF is a metadata aggregator and a single access point to the information from dozens of digital libraries scattered all over Poland. In this way it facilitates the use of these data by external sites. In turn, creators of digital libraries are usually concerned with the widest possible promotion of their libraries and resources available there. From their point of view, a cooperation of the PIONIER DLF with the subsequent external services contribute to such promotion without requiring additional work.

Transferring rules

The PIONIER DLF provides information to the external services in a comprehensive manner only from those libraries that gave their consent. That consent may be withdrawn at any time by contacting the administrators of the PIONIER DLF. Some sites collect information about all objects, while others only about objects that meet clearly defined criteria.

The purpose of Europeana, set by the European Commission, is access improvement to the cultural and scientific heritage of Europe via the Internet. It aims to present the richness of European heritage, to combine multiculturalism and multilingualism with modern technology and up-to-date business models.

Europeana is one of the flagship initiatives of the European Commission funded through a number of international projects.

The PIONIER DLF is a Polish metadata aggregator for Europeana and Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Centre is a project coordinator of EuropeanaLocal for Poland.
