  The article describes results of the survey conducted among the students of information science and book studies at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun between the years of 2007-2008 concerning elementary level of their reading abilities. Over 100 students of the first and the second year were asked to check the speed and comprehension of their reading on the ground of some text chosen from the field of their study. The results were not so satisfying - average speed of their reading (199 words per one minute) was on a level with all adult Polish people standards (200 w/m) but below approximate range established for students population (200-220 w/m). Comprehension factor - 60% of content understanding - was typical for conventional, linear, word by word strategy of reading.;
  Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród studentów informacji naukowej i bibliotekoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu w latach 2007-2008, dotyczących ich elementarnych sprawności czytelniczych. Ponad setkę studentów I i II roku poproszono o przetestowanie tempa czytania i stopnia zrozumienia czytanego tekstu w oparciu o materiał tekstowy z zakresu ich specjalizacji. Rezultaty badań nie wypadły rewelacyjnie - średnia prędkość czytania (199 słów na minutę) utrzymywała się co prawda na przeciętnym poziomie dorosłej polskiej populacji (200 s/m), lecz poniżej orientacyjnego pułapu przewidzianego dla studiujących (200-220 s/m). Także 60% stopień zrozumienia czytanego tekstu odpowiadał konwencjonalnej, linearnej strategii lektury (słowo po słowie).
