  This article discussed the nature of selected Polish verbs. The main claim considered   here is that if these verbs can be recognized as performatives, then the difference between  their perfromative and non-performative forms is semantic rather than pragmatic. The   question whether there can exist in Polish linguistic units twierdzę, że_ (I claim that_ ), deklaruję, że_  (I  declare  that_), zapewniam, że_  (I  assure  that_), oświadczam, że_  (I state that_) homonymic with descriptive forms which belong to a whole paradigm of   the verbs twierdzić, że_ (to declare that_) deklarować, że_ (to declare that_), zapewniać,  że_ (to assure that_), oświadczać, że_ (to state that_) is also raised. The aim of this essay is to try to answer these questions. ;
