The work raises the question of application of direct force on a patient with emphasis on the medical aspect of this problem. The paper discusses an absolute respect for medical procedures in the event of the need of applying direct force to the patient. The implications and complications of the use of restraint were discussed and effective methods of prevention were identified.. Professional role of nurses obliges them to a holistic view of the care over the patient. Ensuring high quality of nursing services requires thorough training and a good knowledge of and compliance with medical procedures. The possibility of complications in patients treated with direct force poses a number of tasks on the medical team. Early implementation of prevention will minimize the emergence of complications, and thus, shorten the stay in hospital. (PNN 2012;1(3):124-128);
Praca porusza problem zastosowania przymusu bezpośredniego wobec pacjenta z uwypukleniem aspektu medycznego tego problemu. W pracy przypomniano o bezwzględnym przestrzeganiu procedury postępowania personelu medycznego w przypadku konieczności zastosowania przymusu bezpośredniego wobec pacjenta. Omówiono skutki i powikłania zastosowania przymusu bezpośredniego oraz wskazano na skuteczne metody ich zapobiegania. Zawodowa rola pielęgniarek obliguje je do holistycznego spojrzenia na sprawy pacjenta. Zapewnienie wysokiej jakości usług pielęgniarskich, wymaga gruntownego przygotowania zawodowego oraz dobrej znajomości i przestrzegania procedur medycznych. Możliwość wystąpienia powikłań u pacjentów, wobec których zastosowano przymus bezpośredni, stawia przed zespołem medycznym szereg zadań. Wczesne wdrożenie profilaktyki ograniczy do minimum powstanie powikłań, a co za tym idzie, skróci pobyt pacjenta w szpitalu. (PNN 2012;1(3):124-128)
