  The article presents a methodological proposal for interpreting Macbeth as a drama about the influence of interpretive abilities on a person’s life and the choices they make. The protagonist of Shakespeare’s tragedy not only solved interpretive puzzles but also created them himself. As a result, other characters were also forced to make intellectual efforts to understand the meaning of what was happening in their environment and throughout Scotland. This way the reading of the play allows us to appreciate the role of literature as a source of questions important to every human being at all times. The students’ statements included in the article confirm that it is worth considering moving beyond the interpretive framework of Macbeth that schools typically reproduce.;
  Artykuł zawiera metodyczną propozycję odczytania Makbeta jako dramatu o wpływie umiejętności interpretacyjnych na życie człowieka i dokonywane przez niego wybory. Bohater tragedii Szekspira nie tylko rozwiązywał interpretacyjne zagadki, ale też sam je tworzył. W rezultacie także pozostałe postaci zmuszone były do intelektualnego wysiłku, by zrozumieć sens tego, co się działo w ich otoczeniu i w całej Szkocji. Taki sposób odczytania tej opowieści pozwala docenić rolę literatury jako źródła pytań ważnych dla każdego człowieka w każdym czasie, a uczniowskie wypowiedzi zamieszczone w artykule potwierdzają, iż warto rozważyć wyjście poza schemat odczytania Makbeta, który szkoła zwykle powiela.
