  Tekst analizuje wpływ specyfiki Europy Środkowej oraz dziedzictwa komunizmu na polskie postawy wobec uchodźców z Ukrainy po 2022 roku. Autor podkreśla, że Europa Środkowa jako region „pomiędzy” Wschodem a Zachodem charakteryzuje się złożoną tożsamością kulturową i polityczną, która wywiera istotny wpływ na sposób postrzegania Innego. W artykule omówiono historyczne i geopolityczne uwarunkowania, które ukształtowały społeczną reakcję na kryzys migracyjny wywołany wojną. Z jednej strony, wskazuje się na wysoki poziom empatii i solidarności społecznej, zakorzeniony w doświadczeniach historycznych. Z drugiej – analizowane są zjawiska takie jak wtórna trauma, zmęczenie pomocą, kolektywny narcyzm i wpływ dezinformacji, które stopniowo zmieniają społeczne nastawienie.
