   The article is concerned with the derivational characteristics of nominal neologisms formed by co-functional suffixes derived from adopted bases. The analysed derivatives belong to the following classes and are composed with the following suffixes: a) the names of personal agents: -owiec, -er, -ista//-ysta (snowboardowiec, snowboarder, snowboardzista); -ant, -ator (manipulant, manipulator), b) the names of personal owners of attributes: -owiec, -er (rockowiec, rocker); -owiec, -ista//-ysta (amfetaminowiec, amfetaminista), c) the names of instruments: -ator, -arka (laminator, laminarka), and d) the names of activities: -anie, -ing (lobbowanie, lobbying). It is claimed in literature that synonymic derivatives with native and foreign suffixes show a rivalry between the native tendency, and the tendency to internationalize (e.g. Waszakowa 2005). The analysis reported in this paper indicates further causes of this process, such as the tendency to automatize derivation, and the need for informative precision. Finally, there exist stylistic reasons to be taken into account.;
