When he was imprisoned for the second time, he sent to his sister, the Benedictine nun Elisabeth, the texts constituting his spiritual testament:A Spiritual Consolation and The Ways to Perfect Religion. The first of them, edited in the spirit of medieval theology, is a warning against the possibility of God’s punishment.The second contains the perspectives of Renaissance thought, and indicates ten ways to achieve mature religiosity, enabling you to reach heaven. Both works are valuable theological literature, also for contemporary theology.;

Jan Fisher, przez lata związany z Uniwersytetem w Cambridge i dynastią Tudorów, stał się szczególnym obrońcą jedności Kościoła w Anglii ze Stolicą Apostolską oraz nierozerwalności małżeństwa Henryka VIII z Katarzyną Aragońską. Gdy po raz drugi trafił do więzienia, skierował do swojej siostry, Elżbiety – zakonnicy benedyktyńskiej teksty stanowiące jego duchowy testament: A Spiritual Consolation oraz The Ways to Perfect Religion. Pierwsze dzieło, zredagowane z duchu teologii średniowiecznej, stanowi ostrzeżenie przed możliwą Bożą karą. Drugie, zawierające perspektywę myśli renesansowej, wskazuje 9 dróg do osiągnięcia dojrzałej religijności, umożliwiającejosiągnięcie nieba. Oba dzieła stanowią wartościową literaturę teologiczną, również dla współczesnej teologii.
