• Description:
  The aim of the article is to present the history of schools and education in Ciechanowiec, from the earliest times to the end of the World War I. The oldest mention comes from the charter of Ciechanowiec, from 1492, where a bathing attendant was mentioned. He was supposed to  "...bath school students once a week..." . In the 18th century, the school in the town was run by priest Krzysztof Kluk, a well-known naturalist of the Enlightenment. In the 19th century, the dominant role was played by schools with Russian as the language of instruction. An exceptional person was priest Józef Gaul, who fought for the introduction of the Polish language in schools. Aleksander Apuchtin, who ruthlessly fought against the Polish language and culture, spent the last years of his life in the area of Ciechanowiec.;
  Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie historii szkół i szkolnictwa w Ciechanowcu, od czasów najdawniejszych do końca I wojny światowej. Najstarsza wzmianka pochodzi z aktu lokacyjnego Ciechanowca, z 1492 r., gdzie jest mowa o łaziebniku, który „…żaki szkolne raz w tydzień myć powinien…” . W XVIII w. szkoła w mieście prowadzona była przez ks. Krzysztofa Kluka, znanego przyrodnika doby Oświecenia. W XIX w. dominowały szkoły z rosyjskim językiem wykładowym. Osobą wyjątkową był ks. Józef Gaul, który walczył o wprowadzenie języka polskiego do szkół. W okolicy ostatnie lata życia spędził Aleksander Apuchtin, „polakożerca” zwalczający bezwzględnie język i kulturę polską.
