Gibraltar is an overseas territory of Great Britain and lies on the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula; the Strait of Gibraltar is situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. In the north it borders the Spanish province of Cádiz. Spain and Great Britain are in dispute over this territory, and the dispute became inflamed after the referendum on Brexit. This paper is devoted to the analysis and evaluation of this argument. It shows the motivation of both sides of the conflict, the attempts of negotiation between these countries and the role of the EU in the whole process. The article also tries to answer the question: Why are the Spanish authorities fighting with such determination to regain Gibraltar?;
Gibraltar jest terytorium zamorskim Wielkiej Brytanii i leży na południowym wybrzeżu Półwyspu Iberyjskiego, u ujścia Morza Śródziemnego na Atlantyk, a od północy graniczy z hiszpańską prowincją Kadyks. Hiszpania oraz Wielka Brytania toczą spór o to terytorium, który w ostatnim czasie zaognił się po referendum przeprowadzonym w sprawie Brexitu. Niniejszy artykuł jest poświęcony analizie i ocenie tego sporu. Ukazuje on motywację obu stron, próby negocjacji pomiędzy tymi państwami oraz rolę UE w całym procesie. W artykule podjęto również próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie: Dlaczego władze Hiszpanii z taką determinacją walczą o odzyskanie Gibraltaru?
