  The aim of the study is to show the volume and directions of permanent migration, including the directions of the movements. On the basis of the movements of the village-city, city-village pattern, migration catchment areas as well as areas of migration attractiveness will be identified. In the conducted analyses, the city and the municipality (NUTS 5) will be the basic spatial reference units. The volume of migration will be presented in a system of four migration directions (city-city; city-village; village-city; village-village). The total flow will be used in the description of the volume and directions of migration, and the highest flow will be used in order to designate the migration catchment areas and areas of attractiveness for cities. Although migrations for permanent residence are a one-off act, their repetition, size, and the presence of “return relations”, albeit of a different scale, suggest not so much formation and/or existence of functional connections between cities and their surroundings, but allow to perform delimitation of the areas related to each other by the function of the place of residence and work – functional areas of cities.;
  Celem opracowania jest próba wyjaśnienia zróżnicowania wielkości oraz kierunków migracji na pobyt stały pomiędzy jednostkami poziomu NUTS 5 podziału terytorialnego. W oparciu o przemieszczenia w układzie wieś–miasto, miasto–wieś zostały zidentyfikowane odpowiednio obszary zlewni migracyjnych oraz obszary atrakcyjności migracyjnej. Podstawową jednostką odniesienia przestrzennego prowadzonych analiz były miasto i gmina (NUTS 5). Wielkość migracji zostanie ukazana w układzie czterech kierunków migracji (miasto–miasto; miasto–wieś; wieś–miasto; wieś–wieś). W opisie wielkości i kierunków migracji zastosowany zostanie sumaryczny przepływ, a w przypadku wyznaczenia obszarów emigracji i imigracji miast największy przepływ. Jakkolwiek migracje na pobyt stały są aktem jednorazowym, to ich  powtarzalność, wielkość, obecność „relacji powrotnych” pozwala wnioskować o wzmacnianiu powiązań funkcjonalnych pomiędzy miastami a ich otoczeniem. W konsekwencji migracje tego typu mogą być wykorzystywane do delimitacji obszarów powiązanych ze sobą funkcją miejsca zamieszkania, miejsca pracy – obszarów funkcjonalnych miast.
