  The article is an attempt to draw attention to the issue of the existence of "funeral policy" in the cemeteries of the pre-partition Republic of Poland. Although in theory the dead were all equal at the time of death, research shows that the deceased received a suitable burial place because of their social background, wealth, personal contribution to the Church, or the type of death. The deceased could therefore be buried in the church, in the church cemetery, in the filial cemetery or outside the cemetery. Moreover, the space of the church or cemetery was also assessed separately, because in the perception of parishioner there were better and worse locations of graves. The description of burials in churches and cemeteries in Old Polish towns was made on the example of two centers: the town of Kazimierz near Krakow and town of Nowe Miasto Korczyn. Analyzes were made on the basis of eighteenth-century parish registers of funerals.
