This paper consists of three parts. The first one describes theoretical studies on colour with particular attention paid to Berlin and Kay’s theory, as well as to other significant linguistic studies, i.a. the ones conducted by A. Wierzbicka. This part also illustrates the status of research on colour in both languages of interest, i.e. Italian: M. A. Kristol, M. Grossmann, and Polish: R. Tokarski, I. Bjelajeva. The second part is mostly focused on etymology of the words biały and bianco, both in Polish and Italian. Additionally, attention is paid to the Pre-Indo-European etymology defining the white colour in both Romance and Slavic languages. The last part of the article analyses the semantic connotations of the white colour in idioms, paremies and literature.;
Le riflessioni sui nomi dei colori vanno sviluppate in diversi aspetti: diacronici, sincronici, etnolinguistici, psicolinguistici, semantici, stilistici ecc. Nel presente lavoro verrà analizzato il termine bianco in italiano e biały in polacco. Verrà anche analizzata l’etimologia e la semantica dei lemmi in ambedue le lingue di ricerca. Sembra difficile trovare un elemento legato alla vita dell’uomo che associ al colore bianco aspetti e simbologie totalmente negative. Relegato nel limbo dei cromonimi considerati né primari né secondari, a volte definito (insieme al nero) come il „non colore” al bianco viene assegnata la simbologia di molte situazioni importanti nella vita di un uomo che si rispecchiano nella lingua.;
Pierwsza część artykułu opisuje stan badań nad kolorem, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem prac B. Berlina i P. Kaya. W pracy uwzględniono także badania nad semantyką koloru prowadzone przez A. Wierzbicką, z uwzględnieniem badań prowadzonych przez M. Grossmann, R. Tokarskiego i I. Bjelajewą. Druga część pracy skupia się na etymologii słów biały w języku polskim i bianco w języku włoskim. Zwrócona zostaje uwaga na praindoeuropejską etymologię określającą barwę białą tak w językach romańskich, jak i słowiańskich. Ostatnia część artykułu analizuje konotacje semantyczne barwy białej w idiomach, paremiach i literaturze.
