  The rising meaning of local development in social and economic space induces to study all aspects connected with this phenomenon. The complicity of local development can be described by its multidimensional aspects (environmental, economic, political, spatial, social and cultural dimension). The main aim of the article is a presentation chosen from them spatial dimension concerning spatial development, functional and spatial system and spatial order. The application example for the undertaken consideration is Swidnica town and that is why characteristics of this local government unit in the aspect of creating effective spatial structure is presented in the elaboration. As a reason of the elaboration’s limited volume presented matters, opinions and conclusions are depicted in a synthetic form.;
  Rosnące znaczenie rozwoju lokalnego w przestrzeni społeczno-gospodarczej skłania do badań aspektów tego zagadnienia. Złożoność rozwoju lokalnego można ukazać przez opis jego wielowymiarowości obejmującej wymiar ekologiczny, gospodarczy, polityczny, przestrzenny i społeczno-kulturowy. Celem artykułu jest opisanie wymiaru przestrzennego dotyczącego zagospodarowania przestrzennego, układów funkcjonalno-przestrzennych, a także ładu przestrzennego. Przykładem aplikacyjnym do rozważań jest miasto Świdnica. W związku z tym w opracowaniu przedstawiono również charakterystykę tej jednostki samorządu terytorialnego w aspekcie kreowania efektywnej struktury przestrzennej. Ze względu na ograniczoną objętość artykułu podnoszone kwestie, oceny i  wnioski zaprezentowano w syntetycznej formie.
