  Professor Stefan Kowal ist fast sein ganzes Leben lang mit Poznań und mit dem Institut für Geschichte der Adam-Mickiewicz- Universität (UAM) verbunden. Er wurde am 2. Februar 1938 in Kuźnica Grabowska in einer wohlhabenden Familie geboren. Sowohl die Lebensbedingungen als auch die politische Situation Polens in der ersten Hälfte der 50er Jahre trugen dazu bei, dass er nach der Grundschule ab 1952 seine Ausbildung drei Jahre lang nicht fortsetzen konnte. Nachdem er 1960 die Reifeprüfung am Mechanischen Technikum in Świebodzin abgelegt hatte, nahm er das Studium der Geschichte an der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität auf.;
  Professor Stefan Kowal has been associated with Poznań and the Institute of History of the Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) for almost his entire life. He was born on February 2, 1938 in Kuźnica Grabowska into a wealthy family. Both the living conditions and the political situation in Poland in the first half of the 1950s meant that he was unable to continue his education for three years after primary school in 1952. After passing the school-leaving examination at the Mechanical Technical School in Świebodzin in 1960, he began studying history at the Adam Mickiewicz University.
