THE BEGINNINGS OF THE “SECOND RE-EMIGRATION EFFORT” IN THE GŁOS POLSKI IN BUENOS AIRES People who emigrated from Poland for political reasons constituted a serious problem for the communists ruling Poland after the Second World War. The authorities of the Polish People’s Republic used various means to weaken their potential. One of them was the so called second re-emigration effort (1955–1957). The operation, which was coordinated by the security forces, involved diplomatic posts, the press, radio stations and eminent representatives of various cultural institutions. However, the propaganda machine aiming to persuade Polish people to return to Poland did not prove successful. It was partly a result of the efforts undertaken by various diasporic organizations and the publications in the Polish immigrant press for whom the intentions of the communist government were clear. In Argentina it was undoubtedly the local newspaper Głos Polski [Polish Voice] that contributed to the thwarting of the communists’ efforts.
