  In the first part of my paper, I present language data which show that the use of  words and the use of gestures are perceived as separate activities, which can be reported,  among others, with the Polish verbs powiedzieć coś komuś and pokazać coś  komuś czymś. In the second part, I compare the natural language users’ perception  of the use of words and gestures with other theoretical approaches. Finally, I come to  the conclusion that the natural language users perceive the use of words and gestures  differently than the researchers who extend the scope of the natural terms describing  the use of words to include the use of gestures;
  W pierwszej części artykułu prezentuję materiał językowy, z którego analizy wynika, że w języku ogólnym użycia słów i użycia gestów są postrzegane jako osobne działania, relacjonowane m. in. za pomocą czasowników "powiedzieć coś komuś" i "pokazać coś komuś czymś". W drugiej części omawiam to, jak użycia słów i gestów są widziane w wybranych pracach lingwistycznych i porównuję te opisy z wynikami analiz języka ogólnego. Z przeprowadzonych porównań wynika, że użycia słów i gestów są inaczej postrzegane przez użytkowników języka, a inaczej przez badaczy specjalistów, którzy skłonni są poszerzać zakres terminów języka naturalnego opisujących użycia słów o użycia gestów.
