The dynamics of changes taking place in the 19th century influenced the perception of the institution of marriage, as well as the role of a woman and a man in a relationship. Then prevailing norms and proprieties limited the decision-making of the young, although not all couples adapted to this model. The transformations taking place in attitudes toward marriage at that time can be seen in the handbooks as well as private documents.;
Dynamika zmian dokonujących się w XIX stuleciu wpłynęła na postrzeganie instytucji małżeństwa, a także roli kobiety i mężczyzny w związku. Panujące ówcześnie normy i konwenanse ograniczały decyzyjność młodych, aczkolwiek warte podkreślenia jest to, że nie wszystkie pary dopasowywały się do tego modelu. Przejawy transformacji dokonujących się w podejściu do instytucji małżeństwa w tym stuleciu można zaobserwować na kartach poradników, jak również w różnego rodzaju prywatnych dokumentach.
