  The ability to assess and code weather conditions is one of the elements of taking care of one’s own safety. The article presents the changes that occur in the way children at the end of kindergarten and at the third grade make these judgements and treat weather condition pictures. It was found that younger children treat weather images as elements of a drawing and evaluate the weather outside the window using a list of questions, while schoolchildren treat weather images as symbols and evaluate the weather by inferring the states of affairs. During the analysis, attention was paid to the children’s own construction of symbols and their consistency in pointing out phenomena associated with rainfall and rainbows. The article contains references for pedagogical practice.;
  Umiejętność oceny i kodowania stanu pogody należy do elementów dbania o własne bezpieczeństwo. W artykule przedstawiono zmiany, jakie zachodzą w sposobie dokonywania tej oceny i traktowania przez dzieci kończących przedszkole i uczniów klasy III obrazków stanów pogodowych. Ustalono, że młodsze dzieci traktują obrazki stanów pogody jako elementy rysunku, a pogodę za oknem oceniają za pomocą listy pytań, podczas gdy uczniowie szkolni obrazki stanów pogody traktują jako symbole, a oceny pogody dokonują na podstawie wnioskowania ze stanów rzeczy. Podczas analizy zwrócono uwagę na budowane przez dzieci własne symbole oraz konsekwencję we wskazywaniu zjawisk współtowarzyszących opadom i tęczy. Artykuł zawiera odniesienia do praktyki pedagogicznej.
