  Problems and Challenges in the Wake of Remote Learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic from the Perspective of a School Psychologist: A Case Study

  The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has significantly affected various dimensions of modern human existence. One of the spheres of social life that has been particularly impacted is education. Remote learning, introduced as a result of public health restrictions, has had a significant effect on the mental health and interpersonal relationships of children and adolescents. The effects of isolation are increasingly detectable in students’ behavior. School psychologists have observed numerous mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-destructive behavior and an ever-growing number of suicide attempts. One can assume that this is a long-term trend. Therefore, there is a need for teachers and other professionals to organize systemic support at school in close cooperation with parents, to set common goals and to decide upon ways to combat the trend. It is necessary to intensify activities designed to improve the mental condition of young people by building good relationships in the classroom, integrating students with the educator and introducing supportive and preventive measures combined with workshops that teach new interpersonal skills. If disturbing symptoms persist or if the functioning of children and adolescents deteriorates, parents should be able to seek psychiatric consultation and psychotherapeutic assistance.;
  Pandemia wirusa SARS-Cov-2 znacząco wpłynęła na różne wymiary egzystencji współczesnego człowieka. Jedną z dziedzin życia społecznego, która w sposób szczególny została dotknięta jej skutkami, jest edukacja. Wprowadzona w wyniku obostrzeń sanitarnych nauka zdalna istotnie wpłynęła na zdrowie psychiczne oraz relacje międzyludzkie dzieci i młodzieży. Skutki izolacji są coraz wyraźniej dostrzegalne w zachowaniach uczniów. Psychologowie szkolni obserwują liczne zaburzenia natury psychicznej, takie jak depresja, stany lękowe, zaburzenia odżywiania, zachowania autodestrukcyjne oraz jeszcze liczniejsze próby samobójcze. Można przypuszczać, że tendencja ta ma wymiar długofalowy. Istnieje zatem potrzeba organizowania wsparcia przez nauczycieli i innych specjalistów w szkole, przy ścisłej współpracy z rodzicami, ustalenia wspólnych celów i sposobów jej zwalczania. Niezbędna jest intensyfikacji działań w celu podniesienia kondycji psychicznej młodych ludzi poprzez budowanie dobrych relacji w klasie, integrację zespołu klasowego wraz z wychowawcą, działania wspierające, profilaktyczne i warsztatowe uczące nowych umiejętności interpersonalnych. W przypadku utrzymywania się niepokojących objawów lub pogorszenia funkcjonowania dzieci i młodzieży rodzice powinni mieć możliwość szybkiej konsultacji psychiatrycznej i pomocy psychoterapeutycznej.
