  Over the centuries, the practice of the sacrament of penance has evolved multiple times. Often, there were disputes between diocesan clergy and religious orders regarding the jurisdiction to hear confessions. By its nature, it was an individualized event, additionally covered by discretion, and at the same time defined by certain general norms set by ecclesiastical law. The confessor was obliged to comply with various legal texts, which over time became part of the forming of Corpus Iuris Canonici. A fundamental provision in this respect was canon 21 of the Fourth Lateran Council – Omnis utriusque sexus. The analysis of the Wroclaw Tractatus de proprio sacerdote, as well as other theological-legal texts conducted in this article, shows that the canon constituting the legal culture of the medieval confessor were moreover the decrees Dudum a Bonifacio. Super cathedram and Vas electionis. This collection was further expanded by other papal bulls, various commentaries, glosses, summas, and penitential treatises.;
  W ciągu wieków sposób sprawowania sakramentu pokuty ewoluował. Nierzadko na tle prawa do spowiadania dochodziło do sporu między duchowieństwem diecezjalnym a zakonnym. Spowiedź była wydarzeniem indywidualnym, objętym dyskrecją oraz określonym pewnymi normami ustalonymi przez prawo kościelne. Spowiednik był zobowiązany do przestrzegania różnych tekstów prawnych, które z czasem weszły w skład formującego się Corpus Iuris Canonici. Fundamentalnym postanowieniem w tym względzie był kan. 21. Soboru Laterańskiego IV – Omnis utriusque sexus. Analiza wrocławskiego Tractatus de proprio sacerdote, a także innych tekstów teologiczno-prawnych ukazuje, że kanonem konstytuującym kulturę prawną średniowiecznego spowiednika były także dekrety Dudum a Bonifacio. Super cathedram oraz Vas electionis. Zbiór ten był poszerzany przez inne bulle papieskie, różne komentarze, glosy, summy i traktaty spowiednicze.
