  Johann Peter Ernst von Scheffler (1739–1810) war eine der auffallendsten Danziger Persönlichkeiten des 18. Jahrhunderts. Der vielseitig interessierte und weit vernetzte Arzt hatte einen Aufstieg in die höchsten gelehrten Kreise seiner Heimatstadt erlebt, bevor er 1780 nach Warschau ging. Dort agierte er im Umfeld des Königs, bildete die kommunikative Schnittstelle zwischen Warschau und Danzig und reiste als Mineraloge durch Polen.;
  Johann Peter Ernst von Scheffler (1739–1810) was one of the most outstanding Gdańsk personalities of the 18th century. This doctor thanks to a wide range of interests and an extensive network of contacts was promoted to the highest circles of scholars in his hometown prior to moving to Warsaw in 1780. There, he worked in the king's entourage. He constituted a communication link between Warsaw and Gdańsk, and travelled around Poland as a mineralogist.;
  Johann Peter Ernst von Scheffler (1739–1810) był jedną z najwybitniejszych osobowości gdańskich XVIII wieku. Ten lekarz o szerokim wachlarzu zainteresowań i rozległej sieci kontaktów doświadczył awansu do najwyższych kręgów uczonych w swoim mieście rodzinnym, zanim wyjechał do Warszawy w 1780 roku. Tam działał w otoczeniu króla, był łącznikiem komunikacyjnym między Warszawą i Gdańskiem oraz podróżował po Polsce jako mineralog.
