Dogs and humans have relationships which are special in their emotional intensity. Aside from the fact that the dog performs many tasks that fulfil the needs of its human owner, it is also, and perhaps primarily, that owner’s friend and companion. At the same time, a dog may be regarded as a threat, due to associations with the aggressive nature of its wolfish ancestors. This ambivalence with regard to dogs can be detected in the modern history of robotics: the machines which are being developed seem to reflect both types of the dog’s image: that of a family member and that of a dangerous beast. Examples are supplied by the Aibo commercial robot created by Sony and the BigDog robot (including its subsequent advanced versions), created by Boston Dynamics for the military. Both these products can be seen as illustrations of the seemingly contradictory images of the dog in culture.;
Psa i człowieka łączy szczególny emocjonalny stosunek. Oprócz tego, że pies realizuje dla potrzeb człowieka wiele zadań, jest także, a może przede wszystkim, przyjacielem i towarzyszem. Jednak kojarzy się również z zagrożeniem, wścieklizną, agresją z powodu konotacji z wilczymi przodkami. Taką ambiwalencję w podejściu do psa można prześledzić we współczesnym rozwoju robotyki, w której stworzone maszyny ucieleśniają zarówno pozytywny wizerunek psa jako członka rodziny, jak i negatywny wizerunek niebezpiecznej bestii. Przykładami takich maszyn są roboty komercyjne Aibo firmy Sony oraz stworzony dla wojska przez Boston Dynamics BigDog (wraz z kolejnymi modernizacjami). Oba projekty robotów można uznać za ilustrację niektórych pozornie sprzecznych obrazów psa w kulturze.;
Собаку и человека связывают особые эмоциональные отношения. Помимо того, что собака решает множество задач в интересах человека, она также, и, возможно, прежде всего, его друг и компаньон. В то же время собака ассоциируется с угрозой, бешенством и агрессией из-за своих волчьих предков. Такая амбивалентность в подходе к собаке прослеживается и в современном развитии робототехники: создаваемые машины воплощают как положительный образ животного как члена семьи, так и отрицательный образ опасного зверя. Примерами могут служить коммерческий робот Aibo от Sony и созданный для армии компанией Boston Dynamics BigDog (включая последующие усовершенствованные версии). Обе конструкции можно рассматривать как иллюстрацию некоторых, казалось бы, противоречивых образов собаки в культуре.
