  Artykuł ma na celu wskazanie pewnych zasadniczych elementów typowych dla Księgi Hioba po to, aby następnie wyjaśnić, jak w bardzo spójny sposób przyczyniają sie one do rozwoju dynamiki utworu. Idąc śladem następujących po sobie kolejnych etapów księgi, autor uwypukla i omawia charakterystyczne cechy każdego z tych etapów. W ten sposób Gilbert pokazuje panoramę całej księgi i swoje rozumienie jej treści.
