  The paper focuses on the bydgosko-toruński composition of the functional and settlement aspects  analyzed from the perspective of history and of the contemporary conditions determining the borderlines of this area. The appearance of the term of ‘the bydgosko-toruńska agglomeration’ at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s initiated a debate on the legitimacy of the isolation of the analyzed composition and treating it either as a whole or separately. The contemporary delimitation of the BTOM was worked out based on the aggregate urbanization index and was completed with the analysis of the functional connections – commuting to work.;
  Artykuł dotyczy bydgosko-toruńskiego układu funkcjonalno-osadniczego analizowanego z perspektywy historycznej oraz współczesnych uwarunkowań determinujących granice tego obszaru. Wraz z pojawieniem się terminu „aglomeracja bydgosko-toruńska” na przełomie lat 60. i 70. XX w. zapoczątkowana została dyskusja na temat zasadności wydzielenia analizowanego układu oraz traktowania go jako całość bądź rozłącznie. Współczesną delimitację BTOM opracowano na podstawie sumarycznego wskaźnika urbanizacji i uzupełniono o analizę powiązań funkcjonalnych.
