• Description:
  The article presents the results of research on the phenomenon of artists’ compulsion to create in the context of the classic theory of the hierarchy of needs introduced by Abraham Maslow (1995b). The research study was exploratory and qualitative in nature, and its aim was to develop the characteristics of the mentioned phenomenon and to recognize its importance for the process of self-actualization among research participants. In the publication, I focus on the aspect of empirical analyses which concerned the relation between the compulsion to create and self-actualization, as well as the conflicts between gratification of the compulsion to create and lower-level needs (in particular the need for material security, belonging, and love) experienced by artists.;
  Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wyników badań nad zjawiskiem „przymusu tworzenia” u artystów w kontekście klasycznej teorii hierarchii potrzeb Abrahama Maslowa (1995b). Badania miały charakter eksploracyjny i jakościowy, a ich celem było opracowanie charakterystyki wspomnianego zjawiska oraz rozpoznanie jego znaczenia dla procesu samorealizacji badanych jednostek. W publikacji koncentruję się na aspekcie analiz empirycznych, które dotyczyły związku przymusu tworzenia z samorealizacją, oraz doświadczanych przez artystów konfliktów między zaspokojeniem przymusu tworzenia a potrzebami niższego rzędu (w szczególności potrzeby bezpieczeństwa materialnego, przynależności i miłości).
