  This article aims to offer an account of the establishment and early development of the ministry of the lector. It focuses on the period between the second century and the fourth century, when the lectorate belonged to lay faithful and was not yet clericalized. The author attempts to identify the reasons for and the timeline of the establishment of the first minor order in the Church and outlines its early development. This makes it apparent why the ministry of the lector is common to the Western Church and the Eastern Churches;
  Prezentowana praca ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na powstanie i wczesny rozwój posługi lektoratu. Wskazuje ona na przedział pomiędzy II a IV w., kiedy to posługa lektoratu przynależała do wiernych świeckich i nie była jeszcze sklerykalizowana. W artykule podjęto próbę ustalenia przyczyn oraz datacji powstania pierwszej niższej posługi Kościoła, wskazując jednocześnie na jej wczesny rozwój. Dzięki temu możliwe jest zauważanie, dlaczego stopień ten jest do dzisiaj wspólnym urzędem Kościoła zachodniego oraz Kościołów wschodnich.
