  On 13–14 October 2011 the Polish national conference on the role of books and periodicals in culture took place in Bydgoszcz. The conference was organized by the Chair of Information Science and Bibliology at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. With no strict chronological and territorial framework in mind, the organizers tried to refer to the days when books and periodicals were the only or the dominant medium of diffusion of cultural content. They also attempted to diagnose their evolution, their role in modern society of information and knowledge, as well answer the question of their status in the future. The article summarizes the two-day meeting and provides basic information on delivered presentations.;
  W dniach 13–14 października Katedra Informacji Naukowej i Bibliologii Uniwersytetu Kazimierza Wielkiego w Bydgoszczy zorganizowała konferencję poświęconą miejscu i roli książki i prasy w kulturze. Nie wprowadzając ścisłych ram chronologicznych i terytorialnych, organizatorzy pragnęli odnieść się zarówno do czasów, kiedy stanowiły one jedyne bądź dominujące medium dyfuzji treści kultury, pokusić się o diagnozę ich znaczenia i przemian w nowoczesnym społeczeństwie informacji i wiedzy, jak i postawić pytanie o ich status w przyszłości. Artykuł podsumowuje dwudniowy cykl spotkań i zawiera podstawowe informacje na temat wygłoszonych w ich ramach referatów.
