Description:
The Pruszkowski family, one of the most eminent families in the Opole region, originated from Prószków, is well known to researchers. We meet its first members at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, but they made their greatest career only after 1526 in the service of the Habsburg dynasty. In 1560, the Pruszkowskis were included by Emperor Ferdinand I into the group of Czech barons, obtaining the status of free state lords (Freiherren). They received a new coat of arms on this occasion. Its image raises no doubts in historiography. For years, however, there has been a dispute over the image of the coat of arms used by the family in the Middle Ages. Reaching for all currently available sources of a heraldic character (seals, rolls of arms, sepulchral monuments, grant of arms), the author undertakes the effort to determine its most probable shape.;
Rodzina Pruszkowskich, jedna z najmożniejszych rodzin wywodzących się z Prószkowa na Opolszczyźnie, jest dobrze znana badaczom. Pierwszych jej przedstawicieli spotykamy na przełomie XIII i XIV w., ale największą karierę zrobili dopiero po 1526 r. w służbie Habsburgów. W 1560 r. Pruszkowscy zostali włączeni przez cesarza Ferdynanda I do grona czeskich baronów, uzyskując status wolnych panów stanowych (Freiherren). Otrzymali przy tej okazji nowy herb. Jego wizerunek nie budzi w historiografii wątpliwości. Od lat trwa natomiast spór o wygląd herbu używanego przez rodzinę w okresie średniowiecza. Sięgając po wszelkie dostępne dziś źródła o charakterze heraldycznym (pieczęcie, herbarze, zabytki sepulkralne, list herbowy), autor podejmuje trud ustalenia jego najbardziej prawdopodobnego kształtu.
