  In contemporary socio-economic conditions, a responsible process of programming the development of cities is important, which takes into account the adaptation to global trends, and at the same time emphasizes endogenous values and enables solving the challenges facing a given territory, using the principle of flexibility. Urban municipalities should have a special approach to the development of space, which in these conditions becomes an important resource; in particular, their task is to put emphasis on a compact functional and spatial structure, spatial order and indicators of sustainable development. The aim of the article is to systematize and evaluate principles of spatial policy declared for implementation in the urban municipalities of Wielkopolskie Voivodeship. The basic research method is a comparative analysis of the principles of spatial policy declared in the studies of conditions and directions of spatial development. This analysis was carried out on the basis of the criteria proposed by the authors, important from the point of view of the sustainable development. These criteria concern, above all, approach to the compact building, the role of public spaces, greenery or multifunctionalities of different parts of the city or town. The collected results were presented in a synthetic way, indicating possible new aspects in the approach to planning of development of urban spaces. Sustainable development is the basis for the development in the studies of conditions and directions of spatial development in the cities and towns of Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, however, it is still possible to indicate the principles and actions that should be taken in the future.;
  We współczesnych uwarunkowaniach społeczno-gospodarczych istotny jest odpowiedzialny proces programowania rozwoju miast, który uwzględnia dostosowanie do trendów ogólnoświatowych, a jednocześnie podkreśla endogeniczne walory i umożliwia rozwiązywanie wyzwań stojących przed danym terytorium, z zastosowaniem zasady elastyczności. Gminy miejskie powinny w sposób szczególny podchodzić do zagospodarowania przestrzeni; ich zadaniem staje się zwłaszcza położenie nacisku na zwartość struktury funkcjonalno-przestrzennej, ład przestrzenny i wyznaczniki zrównoważonego rozwoju. Celem artykułu jest usystematyzowanie i ocena wybranych zasad polityki przestrzennej zadeklarowanych do realizacji w gminach miejskich województwa wielkopolskiego. Analiza została przeprowadzona w oparciu o zaproponowane przez autorki kryteria, istotne z punktu widzenia zrównoważonego rozwoju badanych miast. Dotyczą one przede wszystkim: podejścia do zwartości zabudowy, roli przestrzeni publicznych, zieleni czy wielofunkcyjności poszczególnych części miasta.
