The wooden figure of St Elizabeth of Hungary is a very close imitation – even a copy – of a Gothic limestone statue from the Church of St John in Malbork. At first glance, it seems to be another example of the practice of transferring outstanding stone prototypes to a woodcarvers’ medium, popular in the 15th century. The comparative analysis of the two works carried out in the article indicated a number of details appearing in Kraków’s sculpture, which undermine its 15th century dating. It does not change the fact that the Wawel sculpture is an interesting artwork, which significantly broadens our knowledge about the process of reception of the Beautiful Style in local art (?) in Prussia, and which process – as it turns out – continued several centuries after the Gothic era.;
Znajdująca się w zbiorach Zamku Królewskiego na Wawelu drewniana figura św. Elżbiety Turyńskiej jest bardzo bliskim naśladownictwem – wręcz kopią – gotyckiego wapiennego posągu z kościoła św. Jana w Malborku. Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się być ona kolejnym przykładem, popularnej w XV wieku, praktyki przenoszenia wybitnych kamiennych pierwowzorów na snycerskie medium. Przeprowadzona w artykule analiza porównawcza obu dzieł wskazał na szereg, pozornie drugorzędnych elementów, występujących w krakowskiej rzeźbie, które podważają jej średniowieczną metrykę. Nie zmienia to faktu, że rzeźba wawelska jest interesującym zabytkiem, który w istotnym stopniu poszerza naszą wiedzę na temat procesu recepcji stylu pięknego w sztuce lokalnej (?) w Prusach, i który to proces – jak się okazuje – trwał nadal w kilka stuleci po epoce gotyku.
