  The paper contains a concise analysis of the most important motifs of discussions going on in Europe, which concern the future of the traditional institution of university and which are especially relevant in the Polish context.   Prezentowany tekst zawiera krótką analizę najważniejszych motywów dyskusji toczących się w Europie i dotyczących przyszłości tradycyjnej instytucji uniwersytetu, które są istotne w kontekście polskim. Siedem motywów najważniejszych w polskim kontekście to równość dostępu do szkolnictwa wyższego i ekspansja systemów edukacyjnych, współfinansowanie studiów, finansowa niezależność uczelni, wyższe wykształcenie jako dobro prywatne i dobro publiczne, przedsiębiorczość uczelni, zmieniająca się dynamika relacji prywatne – publiczne w szkolnictwie wyższym oraz regionalna misja uczelni.
