  The aim of the article is to present the disparities in the economic development levels of voivodeships in Poland from 2011 to 2022 based on the taxonomic indicator SK and to forecast the changes in the voivodeships’ membership in specific quartile groups for the years 2023–2025 due to the SK values. For selected macroeconomic variables, SK indicator values were calculated, identifying quartile groups of voivodeships with similar levels of economic development. The use of Markov chains allowed for the estimation of the transition probability matrix for voivodeships between groups, based on which forecasts of changes in the voivodeships’ membership in specific quartile groups were obtained for the next three years. The study showed an increase in the economic level of all Polish voivodeships. The Mazowieckie, Dolnośląskie, Wielkopolskie and Śląskie voivodeships belonged to the first quartile group throughout the analyzed period, achieving the highest level of economic development measured by the SK indicator. The most frequent transitions were between the second and third quartiles, while changes in the fourth quartile were observed very rarely. The average SK indicator values for the years 2011–2022 calculated for each voivodeship range from 0.4233 (Świętokrzyskie voivodeship) to 0.7809 (Mazowieckie voivodeship), confirming the persistent disparities in the economic development levels of voivodeships. The data used in the study was sourced from the Local Data Bank.;
  Celem artykułu jest określenie zmian przynależności województw do poszczególnych grup kwartylowych ze względu na wartość wskaźnika SK mierzącego poziom rozwoju gospodarczego województw w latach 2011–2022 oraz prognoza przesunięć województw pomiędzy tymi grupami w kolejnych latach 2023–2025 z wykorzystaniem łańcuchów Markowa. Badanie wykazało wzrost poziomu gospodarczego wszystkich polskich województw. Województwa: mazowieckie, dolnośląskie, wielkopolskie i śląskie przez cały analizowany okres należały do pierwszej grupy kwartylowej, osiągając najwyższy poziom badanego zjawiska mierzonego wskaźnikiem SK. Najczęściej występowały zmiany przynależności pomiędzy drugą a trzecią grupą, podczas gdy zmiany w czwartej grupie kwartylowej obserwowano bardzo rzadko. Średnie wartości wskaźnika taksonomicznego SK z lat 2011–2022 obliczone dla każdego z województw wynoszą od 0,4266 do 0,7848, co potwierdza utrzymujące się dysproporcje w poziomie rozwoju gospodarczego województw. Źródłem danych wykorzystanych w badaniu jest Bank Danych Lokalnych.
