  The dialogue in the Gospel of St. John between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the Jacob’s well evokes the direct reference to the worship in spirit and truth. Joh 4:21–24 aroused very different reflections in the Patristic period. In this essay, we have examined certain hermeneutical issues involved in seeking to understand this pericope. This study, which is presented the first part, does not claim to provide a complete and exhaustive discussion of this topic. It is surprising the lack of success of this Johannine passage among the ancient Christian authors. Its exegesis generated various theological problems of considerable density. On the base of Joh 4:21–24 the Patristic literature developed a relativisation of the temple in Jerusalem. The Christian authors utilized the image of temple in Jerusalem to illustrate the spiritual aspects of the worship. The Gospel of John aroused interest at the Gnostics. After them a special place occupied the exegesis of Origen and his conception of the spiritualization of the cult. Under his influence were the great Cappadocians who analyzed the problem of worship in spirit and truth in various aspects: theological, spiritual and moral. Thanks to them, the Trinitarian interpretation of John 4:24 was added.;
  Egzegeza patrystyczna J 4,21–24 i prawdziwy kult w Jerozolimie (część I)J 4,21–24 w kompleksowym dialogu Chrystusa z Samarytanką przywołuje kwestie oddawania czci Bogu w duchu i prawdzie. Ten fragment Ewangelii był wykorzystywany w okresie patrystycznym w różnych kontekstach. Mimo nośności tematyki „prawdziwego kultu” może dziwić fakt, że J 4,21–24 był tekstem cytowanym raczej rzadko. Prezentowany artykuł (część I) stara się ukazać najważniejsze wątki refleksji hermeneutycznej Ojców odnośnie do tej perykopy janowej i roli kultu starotestamentowego w Jerozolimie. Na bazie J 4,21–24 relatywizowano rolę świątyni jerozolimskiej, a wiele kluczowych problemów teologicznych w II–IV wieku było związanych z aspektami kultu duchowego. Czwarta Ewangelia znalazła się najpierw w kręgu szczególnych zainteresowań gnostyków. Po nich uwagę na Ewangelię duchową zwrócił Orygenes. Wydaje się, że jego refleksja zmonopolizowała temat kultu w duchu i prawdzie. Jego śladem poszli inni Ojcowie, wychodząc niejednokrotnie poza utarte schematy. Kult chrześcijański był postrzegany jako doskonalszy, niezwiązanym z jednym miejscem, lecz duchowy i wewnętrzny. Terminologia występująca J 4,21–24 stanowiła rodzaj katalizatora dla kwestii o decydującym znaczeniu dla starożytnego Kościoła. Chodziło bowiem nie tylko o problemy egzegetyczne czy rytualne, lecz także o te natury filozoficznej, historycznej czy duchowej. Pojawiła się także kwestia lektury trynitarnej J 4,24. Opracowanie zamyka spojrzenie na interpretację Kapadocejczyków, u których widać konstruktywne wykorzystanie różnych motywów egzegetycznych.
