The article introduces the figure of Władysław Sarna (1858–1929) and his two texts devoted to the former counties of Galicia: Opis powiatu krośnieńskiego pod względem geograficzno-historycznym [Description of the Krosno County from geographical-historical perspective] (Przemyśl, 1898) and Opis powiatu jasielskiego pod względem geograficzno-historycznym [Description of the Jasło County from geographical-historical perspective] (Jasło, 1908). In the following part, the content concerning the legal and ethnic circumstances of the settlements and locations under German and Vlach laws contained in both works was analysed. Based on the information in the Descriptions and contemporary literature, a data-base was developed for each described settlement with the time of their appearance in historical sources and the law under which they functioned.;
W artykule przybliżono postać Władysława Sarny (1858–1929) oraz jego dwie prace poświęcone dawnym powiatom Galicji: Opis powiatu krośnieńskiego pod względem geograficzno-historycznym (Przemyśl 1898) i Opis powiatu jasielskiego pod względem geograficzno-historycznym (Jasło 1908). Analizie poddano zawarte w obu pracach treści dotyczące uwarunkowań prawnych i etnicznych osadnictwa oraz lokacji na prawach niemieckim i wołoskim. Na podstawie informacji zawartych w Opisach oraz współczesnej literatury opracowano bazę danych dla każdej z opisanych miejscowości z podaniem czasu pojawienia się w źródłach historycznych oraz prawa, na jakim funkcjonowała.
