  The Metaphysical Concept of Aevum and the Salvific Dimension of Time in the Christian Liturgy

  This interdisciplinary study attempts to answer the question of whether it is possible—by way of a certain analogy—to draw a “parallel” between liturgical time, which contains the past and the future in its present, and aevum, which is a concept that expresses an existence that is everlasting and yet different from that of God by virtue of being subject to changes inherent in the nature of substances separated from matter, as taught by Saint Thomas Aquinas. It appears that this concept, developed upon the foundation of metaphysics, may provide a basis for an analogy that facilitates human understanding of the manner in which the salvific events of two thousand years ago are remembered and commemorated (and thus made present in a real manner hic et nunc) and, at the same time, the eschatic future is anticipated in the liturgy of the Church.;
  Interdyscyplinarne opracowanie stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy – stosując pewną analogię – czasu liturgicznego, w którego teraźniejszości zawarte są przeszłość i przyszłość, nie można by „porównać” do aevum wyrażającego wiekuiste, a zarazem odmienne od Bożego – bo podlegające właściwym naturze substancji odłączonych od materii zmianom – istnienie, o czym nauczał św. Tomasz z Akwinu. Wydaje się, że owa koncepcja wypracowana na gruncie metafizyki może stanowić podstawę analogii pozwalającej przybliżyć ludzkiemu poznaniu sposób, w jaki w liturgii Kościoła wydarzenia zbawcze sprzed 2000 lat są wspominane i upamiętniane (i w konsekwencji realnie uobecniane hic et nunc), a jednocześnie jest antycypowana eschatyczna przyszłość.
