This is the metaphor of L’ultimo Pulcinella, a warning or a reminder to every man to always consider his true nature. The soul of man is not brutish or violent but is rather thinking and inventive, a capacity given to all of us at the moment of creation.Maurizio Scaparro’s L’ultimo Pulcinella brings to life the process of redemption in the story of a group of young people who, overrun by the winds of discrimination and violence, discover a way to salvation through music, dance and performance. In this way the theater, in its highest form, becomes a way to bring about a return of hope for the future. Through the theater, one learns how to look at oneself, re-learns of “tutto l’infinito che e’ negli uomini” (the infinite that resides within [the soul of [?]] mankind), and finds the strength to move away from brutality and violence.Michelangelo (Massimo Ranieri) is a man of the theater and all his life he has continued to interpret the art of Pulcinella, the beloved masked character of the Commedia dell’Arte, in spite of being often refused for various engagements. Pulcinella, Michelangelo is slowly learning, is no longer the beloved mask of the past, since modern times seem to have decreed its death, and his melodies no longer seem to enchant people.The sudden and mysterious departure of his son Francesco (Domenico Balsamo) from Naples convinces Michelangelo to follow him to Paris where the young man has found refuge. Not able to find any form of dialogue with his son, Michelangelo is ready to leave Paris and Francesco in order to create a new life for himself when he runs into an abandoned theater. With the help of his friend John Paul Dorian, a professor of theater and Italian, Michelangelo decides to bring the theater back to life. And here, in this dusty, old theater, we witness the miracle of the rebirth of humanity through the power of the Art. Banlieu, where Francesco is now living, is a poor and forgotten place in the suburbs of Paris in an area where hundreds of young immigrants live a life or discrimination and hopelessness. Kept out of the main stream of French life, these young people have turned to violence and acts of rebellion to make themselves seen and heard. They have become ‘brutes’, no longer aware of the humanity hidden in their souls. And it is amongst them that Pulcinella negotiates Dante’s immortal words, “You were not created to live as brutes but to follow Virtue and Knowledge.” Pulcinella, explains Michelangelo to the skeptical young immigrants who have been recruited to re-enact Pulcinella on stage, represents every person offended in his humanity, everyone who has been denied the very essence of being a man. To move away from this brutishness and the subhuman conditions that they have fallen into, they need to reach into themselves and reassert “tutto l’infinito ch’e’ negli uomini” (all the humanity that exists in every man).The rediscovery of virtue and knowledge is the key to reading and interpreting the last work of Maurizio Scaparro, L’ultimo Pulcinella(2008).;
  Quando si ascoltano brutti fatti di cronaca ogni giorno, si vedono giovani che arrancano a uscire da una situazione di stallo, persone che vivono nello squallore dell’intelletto, incoscienti persino di essere caduti nel buio dell’ignoranza, le parole che Dante ha messo in bocca a Ulisse si fanno sentire più forti, prendono un tono di allarme, un avvertimento all’uomo di tornare a credere, a utilizzare le proprie capacità creative per uscire dalla melma della non umanità. Tra i modi per aiutare l’uomo a risalire la china degli inferi e ritrovare la strada della “virtute e conoscenza” c’è l’arte. L’arte come riscatto per guidare le anime dei giovani a ritrovare l’essenza umana, risolvere, redimere, aiutare a sciogliere forme di inaridimento, di chiusura e ridare speranza a vedere, nel buio del momento, la luce di un domani migliore. Questo è il film L’ultimo Pulcinella di Maurizio Scaparro. Un processo di redensione, di scoperta di una vita di salvezza attraverso la musica, la danza, il teatro per un gruppo di giovani travolti dalla bufera della discriminazione e della violenza. È l’Arte con la lettera maiuscola nelle sue forme più pure a far rinascere la speranza, e con ci si stanca di guardare ed ascoltare il protagonista prinicipale quando si cala nella parte di Pulcinella per provare i giovani delle baliu parigine a ritrovare se stessi e la cognizione del proprio intelletto;
  Zacytowana fragment „Boskiej Komedii” doskonale oddaje ideę przewodnią filmu Maurizia Scaparro pt. „L'ultimo Pulcinella” („Ostatni Pulcinella”). Film opowiada o procesie odkupienia pewnej grupy młodych ludzi, którzy, mimo znalezienia się w szponach dyskryminacji i przemocy, poprzez muzykę, taniec i teatr dążą do tego, by się z nich wyzwolić. W ten sposób teatr, w swojej najdoskonalszej formie, staje się sposobem na przywrócenie nadziei na przyszłość. Poprzez teatr człowiek uczy się, jak ma siebie postrzegać, znajdując w sobie siłę do tego, aby uciec od brutalności i przemocy.
