  Die polnischen Gutsbesitzer spielten eine wichtige Rolle in der Nationalbewegung des preußischen Teilungsgebiets. Es war zu einem großen Teil ihnen zu verdanken, dass es gelang, die Vorstellung von der organischen Arbeit in der polnischen Gesellschaft zu verankern. Die Gründung von Institutionen wirtschaftlichen, kulturellen und wissenschaftlichen Charakters führte zur Teilnahme von breiteren Kreisen der Gesellschaft am politischen Leben. Paradoxerweise führte das auf Dauer zur Schwächung der politischen und gesellschaftlichen Rolle der Gutsbesitzer. Dies wurde durch die Modernisierungsprozesse im preußischen Staat gefördert und erhielt eine noch größere Dynamik durch den 1. Weltkrieg. Deshalb behandelt der Autor die Haltung der Gutsbesitzer zur Zeit der Kämpfe um den Anschluss Pommerns an den wieder entstehenden polnischen Staat.            Die Gutsbesitzer in der Umgebung von Thorn, des wichtigsten regionalen Zentrums in Pommern neben Danzig, schalteten sich aktiv in alle Formen von Aktivitäten für die Rückkehr Pommerns zum Mutterland ein. Sie schufen einen Kreisvolksrat, eine militärische Konspiration, sie verstärkten freiwillig Einheiten, die in Kujawien gebildet worden waren, sie repräsentierten die Einwohner der Region im Forum des Bezirkslandtags und in den politischen Strukturen des obersten Volksrats, und schließlich engagierten sie sich nach dem Versailler Vertrag bei der Schaffung der Grundlagen der künftigen, polnischen Verwaltung. Sie waren in der Lage, die gesellschaftlichen Gefühle zu erspüren, indem sie sich in die Tätigkeit der Volksräte einschalteten (eine Zeitlang auch der Arbeiter- und Soldatenräte und der Bauernräte). Sie hielten diese erfolgreich von einer Radikalisierung ab, indem sie sich auf nationale Forderungen konzentrierten. Dadurch entschieden sie über die Gestalt der nationalen Bewegung mit und spielten eine wesentliche Rolle im Verlauf des Prozesses, der zur Rückgabe Pommerns führte. Durch ihren finanziellen Rückhalt und ihre intellektuelle Vorbereitung leisteten sie in der sog. Übergangsphase unschätzbare Dienste, als die vitalen Interessen der Region auf dem Spiel standen, indem sie die deutsche Verwaltung beaufsichtigten und mit ihr zusammenarbeiteten.            Die Modifizierung des eigenen Programms und der politischen Ziele, zu denen sich die Führer der örtlichen Gutsbesitzerszene mit Jan Donimirski und Adam Czarliński an der Spitze bekannten, war die Fortsetzung eines langen Prozesses der Annäherung von verschiedenen sozialen Gruppen. In der Zwischenkriegszeit ermöglichte dies die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Bauern und den Gutsbesitzern, sowohl auf beruflicher wie auf politischer Ebene, eine Zusammenarbeit, die in anderen Regionen Polens schwer zu bewerkstelligen war.;
  The Polish landed gentry played an important role in the national movement of Poles from the Prussian partition. To a large extent, the landed gentry managed to instil the ideas of organic work among Poles, which, based on national solidarity, became their political paradigm. The establishment of institutions of an economic, cultural and scientific nature contributed to the wider social circles’ participation in the political life.  Paradoxically, in the long run, this weakened the political and social role of the landed gentry, which was reinforced by the modernization processes of the Prussian state. The World War I made the process  even more dynamic. Therefore, the author of the article looked at the attitudes of landowners during the struggle to incorporate Pomerania into the reviving Polish state.The landowners from the vicinities of  Toruń - the main regional center in Pomerania besides Gdańsk - actively contributed to all forms of activities the aim of which was to incorporate Pomerania  into the Polish Motherland. The landed gentry  were members of  the county’s people's council and military underground; they  voluntarily supplied military units formed in Kuyavia; they represented the inhabitants of the region at the District Sejm and in the political structures of the Supreme People's Council. Finally, after the Treaty of Versailles they became involved in the construction of  the framework of the future Polish administration. They were able to sense social moods  as members of  people's councils (to some extent also as members of workers 'and soldiers' councils and  peasants’ councils). They successfully stopped them from radicalizing, focusing their attention on national demands. As a result, they co-decided on the shape of the national movement and played an important role in the the process that led to the restitution of Pomerania. With financial resources and intellectual preparation, they gave invaluable services in the so-called transition period, when vital interests of the region had to be taken care of while supervising and cooperating with the German administration.The modification of their own program and political goals expressed by the leaders of the local community of landowners, headed by Jan Donimirski and Adam Czarliński , was a continuation of the long process of bringing together different social strata. In the interwar period, this enabled cooperation between peasants and landowners both professionally and politically. Such cooperation  was difficult to find in other regions of Poland.;
  Ziemiaństwo polskie odgrywało ważną rolę w ruchu narodowym zaboru pruskiego. W dużej mierze dzięki aktywności ziemian udało się zaszczepić społeczeństwu polskiemu idee pracy organicznej, które oparte o solidaryzm narodowy stały się jego paradygmatem politycznym. Utworzenie instytucji o charakterze gospodarczym, kulturalnym i naukowym przyczyniło się do partycypacji w życiu politycznym szerszych kręgów społecznych. Paradoksalnie, w dłuższej perspektywie, doprowadziło to do osłabienia roli politycznej i społecznej ziemiaństwa. Sprzyjały temu procesy modernizacyjne państwa pruskiego, a jeszcze bardziej zdynamizowała I wojna światowa. Dlatego autor artykułu przyjrzał się postawom ziemian w okresie walki i starań o przyłączenie Pomorza do odradzającego się państwa polskiego.Ziemianie okolic Torunia – głównego oprócz Gdańska ośrodka regionalnego na Pomorzu – aktywnie włączyli się we wszystkie formy działań na rzecz powrotu Pomorza do Macierzy. Współtworzyli powiatową radę ludową, konspirację wojskową, ochotniczo zasilali oddziały formowane na Kujawach, reprezentowali mieszkańców regionu na forum Sejmu Dzielnicowego oraz w strukturach politycznych Naczelnej Rady Ludowej, wreszcie – po traktacie wersalskim – zaangażowali się w tworzenie zrębów przyszłej, polskiej administracji. Potrafili wyczuć nastroje społeczne włączając się w działalność rad ludowych (w pewnym zakresie także robotniczo-żołnierskich i chłopskich). Skutecznie powstrzymali  je przed radykalizacją, ogniskując na postulatach narodowych. Dzięki temu współdecydowali o kształcie ruchu narodowego i odegrali istotną rolę w przebiegu procesu, który doprowadził do restytucji Pomorza. Posiadając zaplecze finansowe i przygotowanie intelektualne oddali nieocenione usługi w tzw. okresie przejściowym, gdy należało zadbać o żywotne interesy regionu, nadzorując i współpracując z administracją niemiecką.Modyfikacja własnego programu i celów politycznych, jakie wyrażali liderzy miejscowego środowiska ziemiańskiego z Janem Donimirskim i Adamem Czarlińskim na czele, było kontynuacją długiego procesu zbliżania się do siebie różnych warstw społecznych. W okresie międzywojennym umożliwiło to współpracę pomiędzy chłopami i ziemiaństwem zarówno na gruncie zawodowym, jak i politycznym, współpracę, o którą było trudno w innych regionach Polski.
