  The Church protests against the plans to amend the Polish People's Republic Constitution of 1976 were rather successful, and in consequence the government had partially given up the proposed amendments. In the Church's view, the real problem was not the dominance of the United Polish Workers' Party, but the Soviet influences in Polish People's Republic. It was felt that although, at that particular moment of history, even the authoritarian system and limited independence could be, if reluctantly, accepted, the powers of the government needed to be clearly demarcated and free from ideological obligations, including implementation of official atheism. Those limes were a manifestation of the integrity of human rights and the family, the respect for the Church and its place in public life, and, above all, from the fact that Poland of those time enjoyed a relatively wide internal and external autonomy.;
  Les protestations de l'Eglise contre l'amendement du 10 février 1976 de la Constitution de la République Populaire de Pologne du 22 juillet 1952 donnerent en résultat le recul de l'autorité, au moins en partie, de son projet des changements constitutionnels. Pour l'Eglise la domination du Parti Communiste dans la vie publique et l'appartenance de la Pologne à la zone del'influence sovietique ne faisaient pas un problème essentiel. En face de la nécéssité elle fut capable d'accepter aussi le système politique autoritaire ainsi que l'indépendance limité du pays à moins dans ce moment historique, mais elle exigait que le pouvoir d'État devrait avoir les limites nettement définis et l'État devrait être libre des obligations idéologiques, y compris la laïcisation officielle. Ces limes résultaient de l'intégralité des droits de l'homme et de ceux de la famille, du respect à la présence de l'Eglise dans la vie publique et de l'autonomie interne et externe bien grande de la Pologne.
