  The range and scope of phraseology has been constantly increasing in contemporary world. Multi-word reproductive units constitute a major share of all utterances. Typically very idiosyncratic in a given language, phraseological units are a source of difficulty for interpreters faced with the necessity to relate them to those of a different language. The aim of the paper is to signal the difficulties that appear when phraseology is translated. Specific characteristics of the translation of phraseological structures are introduced and so are the problems that a translator has to face. Selected phraseotranslations are presented and the process of phraseology translation is analyzed. The paper introduces phraseotranslation as a new interdisciplinary scholarly discipline. Phraseotranslation is situated at the crossroads of phraseology, translation studies, contrastive studies and phraseodidactics. Recently, there has been a growing need for an efficient interlinguistic translation. Although the education of future translators of foreign languages develops more and more, the problem of phraseologization in translation is still very rarely addressed in academic research. An effective translation implies equivalent messages in two different linguistic codes, which becomes extremely difficult in the case of phraseology. Multiple-word structures entrenched in natural languages are therefore a major challenge in the process of translation and can be a prominent difficulty even for professional translators.;
  Tematem artykułu jest wprowadzenie do nowej, interdyscyplinarnej dziedziny badawczej, jaką jest frazeotranslacja. Autorka prezentuje specyficzne cechy przekładu struktur frazeologicznych oraz problemy, z którymi musi mierzyć się tłumacz pracujący w tej materii. W tekście przedstawione zostały wybrane konecpcje i strategie frazeotranslacyjne, a także analiza samego procesu przekładu jednostek frazeologicznych.
