Autor najpierw zajmuje się kwestiami rodziny robotniczej i prostytucji, do której zmusza się kobiety. Następnie analizuje się zagadnieniesystemowego bezrobocia w kapitalizmie. Dalej mamy rozważania o inteligencji w kontekście znacznego przyrostu osób, które zdobywają wyższe wykształcenie. Potem podejmuje się zagadnienie filantropii. W ostatniej części pojawiają się dociekania teoretyczne o związkach zawodowych.
