  The article deals with the revival of the idea of Poland as the Bulwark of the West after the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The leading political writer of the Polish Enlightenment, Hugo Kołłątaj, played a crucial role in this revival by publishing an anonymous historical and political treatise, Nil Desperandum!, of great geopolitical significance. Kołłątaj postulated a return to the concept of Poland as a European Bulwark in the East (against Russia), in the service of the Napoleonic empire as a “community of civilised peoples”.;
  Artykuł traktuje o odrodzeniu idei Polski jako przedmurza Zachodu po rozbiorach Rzeczypospolitej. Kluczową rolę odegrał tu czołowy pisarz polityczny polskiego oświecenia Hugo Kołłątaj, publikując anonimowo w 1808 r. esej historyczno-polityczny Nil Desperandum! Ów traktat polityczny był wywodem o dużym znaczeniu geopolitycznym. Postulował powrót Polski do koncepcji europejskiego przedmurza na Wschodzie (przeciw Rosji), w służbie napoleońskiemu imperium jako „wspólnocie ludów cywilizowanych”.
