The aim of this article is to critically evaluate a book on the life and career of Margarete Bieber (1879–1978), eminent historian and classical archaeologist. The book contains numismatic essays by some modern authors. The main section of the text consists of remarks on the Roman coin iconography, especially imperial coinage of the second and third centuries, and the relation between sculpture and coins. It focuses on issues of methodology and the research value of numismatic sources.;
Celem artykułu jest krytyczna ocena książki poświęconej życiu i karierze Margarete Bieber (1879–1978), wybitnej historyk i archeolog sztuki starożytnej, oraz zawierającej numizmatyczne studia kilku współczesnych autorów. Zasadniczą część tekstu stanowią uwagi o ikonografii monety rzymskiej, zwłaszcza monety imperialnej II i III stulecia, oraz o związkach między rzeźbą a monetami. Skupia się on na kwestiach metodologii i wartości poznawczej źródeł numizmatycznych.
