  An issue of the cultural heritage protection is at the moment the most current question, as in Poland, as in whole Europe. The city of Łódź is a distinctive case – at the turn of the 19th and 20th century it was the largest centre of textile industry in Central Europe and at the same time called „melting pot”, pulling together thousands of newcomers from all over the world, people of different nationalities and religion. For this reason currently perpetuated cultural heritage of the city of Łódź is characterized by wealth and variety. The most valuable examples of this heritage include the Old Cemetery on Ogrodowa Street, consisting of three components: Evangelical-Augsburg, orthodox and Roman Catholic. The Evangelical- Augsburg part, where representatives of the most important industrial families were buried, is particularly interesting. Scheibler’s family (the mightiest manufacturers in former Łódź) mortuary chapel towers over a cemetery. For a dozen or so years it has been taken action of renovation of destroyed monuments at all of the three parts of the Old Cemetry – to date, 170 objects have been renovated. The particular important task is to restore Scheibler’s mortuary chapel, which is the most precious monument of the Neo-Gothic style over the Polish lands. tłum. Julia Niewiarowska-Kulesza;
